We want to make you aware of an ongoing financial scam targeting grieving families and funeral homes across the country. Scammers are impersonating funeral home staff and insurance representatives to entice families into making fraudulent payments during an already vulnerable time.

These individuals are using spoofed phone numbers and falsified identities to appear legitimate. Reported scam tactics include, but are not limited to:

• Claiming to be funeral home staff using real employee names
• Saying a check was lost and requesting immediate payment
• Demanding payment through credit card, Cash App, or other instant transfer platforms
• Claiming you are owed a refund, then requesting your banking or credit card information to “issue” it
• Offering a gift card for completing a funeral satisfaction survey but asking for a credit card to “verify identity”

Protect Yourself — Know the Signs:

• Resist urgent requests for immediate payment or private information. Scammers use pressure tactics to catch people off guard.
• Verify everything. Do not trust caller ID, texts, or emails—scammers can fake them. Always use known, verified contact information to reach us.
• Taylor Funeral Home will never request payments via Cash App, Venmo, cryptocurrency, or gift cards.
• Never deposit a check and send money back. That’s a classic scam.
